For those family and friends that don't live near us, you may remember our children talking last year of a little boy named Dax. We decorated our house with Christmas lights earlier than normal to help make sure little Dax had a chance to experience Christmas. You see he had luekemia and his family wasn't sure he would live long enough to see December 25th. God was very gracious and granted the Locke family their wish. Matthew West has just released a song describing their experience. While on the way to the children's museum this morning, I turned on the radio and caught the last maybe 30 seconds of an interview with Dax's mother. My own little boy spoke up from the back of the van asking, "Is Dax's mommy sad?" I couldn't help but start crying as I tried to explain that his mommy misses him. Then my sweet Corban reminded me, "But, Mommy, she is going to see him again. They'll get to be together again in heaven!" And with those few words, do you know what? My son instantly reshaped my attitude this Christmas. Instead of my head being filled with crazy schedules, last minute shopping burdens, commitments, and food preparation plans...it all faded and quieted down in the light of THE amazing gift that was given 2000 years ago and what we are truly celebrating.
Thank you, God, for the gift of Jesus, His sacrifice on the cross for us, and the future we can look forward to in You.
