Hey everybody,
Our adoption agency talked with the Bulgarian Ministry of Justice when they were in the states, and it turns out that the Bulgaria adoption timeline has stretched out to as much as 2 years (very possibly more) from dossier registration. That means that we have a long time to wait before our referral and subsequent adoption. In fact, our agency is no longer accepting new dossiers for Bulgaria because of the timeline issues. Sooo, Charisa and I are talking about re-using our existing home study and adopting domestically in the mean time. We have already been talking about multiple adoptions for a while now, so it fits our plans in an odd and unexpected sort of way. Anyway, the domestic adoption could be completed and still leave the requisite one-year interval before the Bulgarian adoption would occur. It all seems very insane and unbelievable....but then again, we serve a God that is capable of handling insane and unbelievable things. So, please just pray for wisdom and leading.

Curious what agency you're working with because ours is pretty much saying the opposite about Bulgarian adoptions.....
Whatever you choose to do, I hope it works out in the way that makes you happiest.

From what I hear domestic takes up to two years also...our agency also says that Bulgaria is becoming more and more stable..not the other way around...the new laws in Bulgaria are going to help even more by holding the adoption council accountable if they DON'T refer children in a timely manner to adoptive parents who have requested them. My program coordinator has adopted three children from Bulgaria and she is a pro at this..I'm trusting that she knows what she's talking about. We are requesting mild/moderate special needs, so that may even take less time..we were told 12 months by the Bulgarian attorney..18 months to be safe, by our coordinator.. Hopefully the new laws will shorten, not lengthen the time to wait..
